Sounds like you have already checked out trip advisor, which has a list of must do and dont bother places to see in Edinburgh. Personally I thought the camera obscura was expensive and not particularly good. I got the edinburgh pass which included a lot of the attractions. I think the best thing we did was go on the Maid of Forth trip - its covered on the pass or you can get tickets and got direct from Waverly Bridge. If you did it for the last trip out - I think its about 4 pm? you could spend the rest of the day in the city then afterwards return for your meal?
Of course the castle is the one thing you must visit.0 -
I would do the walking tour for the main sites and the tour that takes you down to Leith and the Royal Yacht Britannia.0

Me too. We did the yacht this year and thought it was great.
We try to go a couple of times a year, and will prob do a walking tour again this time. We went at Halloween last year intending to do a ghost walk but it rained so much the streets emptied
Booked to go this Halloween already******** Never be a spectator of unfairness or stupidity *******"Always be calm and polite, and have the materials to make a bomb"0 -

We went last June, its was warm and sunny and we got Travelodge, near the centre/station for £25 the room per night. Our return flights came to about £200 for 2.0 -
We were, honestly, walking round in t-shirts in October, it was so warm. The rain was a bit of a downer, but it was only that one shower, and as Billy Connolly once said "of course it was f****** raining; it's f****** Scotland!"
Travelodge, superb, £9 a night :-)******** Never be a spectator of unfairness or stupidity *******"Always be calm and polite, and have the materials to make a bomb"0 -
I'm a really big fan of the Dome, it is beautiful and spectacular.

You can go for a sandwich during the day if you don't want to spend too much. Has a fab cocktail bar at night.
Even if you don't eat there, it's worth a nosy inside.MSE Forum's favourite nutter :T0 -
mary kings close is great (google it, its not cheap but its amazing and a bit spooky), open top bus tour is good(get sandwiches and have your lunch on it), i wouldnt bother with the castle (its good but time consuming), brittania is good (clubcard vouchers?), some nice wee pubs up the top of the royal mile. zoo is fairly good, but would take a full day.
enjoy your trip!0
