Pugeot 308 with an oil abuse problem
Hi all, my 308 HTI (petrol) absolutely destroys oil. I've had it for a year and a bit now and conservatively I've probably put 10L of oil into it.
I've had it serviced and MOT'd and they have not come up with anything, and I'm worried if I take it to the garage to get looked at it wil be hugely expensive. Any one got any thoughts, or had similar problems?

Dunno what the cause is, if it's ever been severley overheated in it's life then it's probably knackered piston rings.
At full running temp, get someone to hold a white rag over the exhaust and give the engine a brief hoofing, excessive sooty deposit on the rag = oil burning.
You haven't mentioned anything about whether it's leaving oil underneath it when parked, so im assuming this isn't a simple oil leak.
But whatever the cause, leaving it will just make the eventual repair more and more expensive.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Good trick, I'll try that thanks.
It's only 4 1/2 years old and I've never seen it overheat whilst I've had it.
I'm worried it could be gasket related. Although wierdly, it doesn't seem to leak anywhere. I've left it for days on end standing still, moved it and no oil marks on the drive.
Maybe it's worth etting investigatedWise man once say "When in hole, don't dig"0 -
How many miles do you do? For some cars, if you were doing 20,000+ per year then 10 litres of oil wouldn't be out of the ordinary.
I remember driving a wagon that had a million kilometers on the clock. It used to use half a gallon of oil a day. They never found out where that went either. Didn't leak and no obvious blue smoke.0 -
I've probably done 18/19K since I got it actually. So that could make sense. It's a fairly uneconomical engine too.
It must go somewhere....Wise man once say "When in hole, don't dig"0 -
