Afternoon everyone,
Have just booked bargain 4 night stay at new (not opened) travelodge in Teddington. Have goggled mapped area and it looks very nice. Fingers crossed travelodge will be ok, very weary about booking unopened hotels:undecided
Can anyone give advice on best ways to get into central London from here? And any travelcards which might be useful.
Hoping to also visit Hampton Court Palace and Thorpe Park.
Really pleased with price as we are going the week before the olympics:)

Teddington is on the lines to Waterloo station in London. The journey time is about 40 mins.
Teddington to Staines (for Thorpe Park) is about 30 mins. You will need to change trains at Twickenham. From Staines to Thorpe park you have several options. As you exit the station can either take a taxi (they will be queing up on the road for your business!), take a minicab from the office a little further along the road to your right (they are good I use this company) or you can cross over the bridge and take the bus which leaves from the station car park.0 -
Look out for 241 deals for Thorpe Park - rarely have to pay full price - probably a Mr T one about at the moment at least
Good shopping and restaurants in nearby Kingston, almost walking distance - can get to Hampton Ct palace from K by a very nice boat trip
Chess World of A nearish too, do-able by train
Enjoy! You never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow0 -
Wow, boat trip to the palace! How lovely. All looks quite lush around and about. Perfect for picnics too I guess.:silenced:0

Spoilt for choice of picnic sites - palace grounds (if allowed), river banks, or in walking distance; Bushey Park, among the deerYou never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow0

Hey
Well I live in teddington and yes it is still under construction , the train station is 5 mins down the road the river Thames is approx 10 mins walk down to teddington lock and Hampton court is 15 mins on the bus and Richmond is also 1 bus ride away approx 25 mins .
You can walk to bushy park (15 mins ) , not much in teddington but plenty of restaurants and an m&s local food store at the other end of e high street.
Depends on what you want to do , if you have a car just watch the parking make sure you read the signs but there is free parking ( so far until the hotel opens no doubt !!!)
You will need a 1-6 zone travel card for £8.50 per adult into London and £3.50 for kids .
Def make sure you go down to teddington lock though and you can walk actually all the way to Hampton court along the river about an hour strolling just make sure you cross over Kingston bridge (over to hampton wick side otherwise you'll end up in surbiton ) or turn left and you can walk all the way in to Richmond again a good hours stroll but there are a few pubs and little cafe bars along the way .
You made a good choice it's lovely here in the summer !!!0 -
The boat goes from Hampton court to Westminster if you want but takes a couple of hours the company is Turks launches I think and I think it was £12 one last year but you can also do Kingston to Hampton etc they have a website google the name ....0

Think, looking at the travelodge website they say there will be some parking at the hotel.:silenced:0 -
Hi, I am here too in August, we have the Thorpe park 2 day offer with parking that was on here a few weeks back. So we are planning to drive down and park at the travelodge and use the car for Thorpe Park but use public transport to get into London.
I have read the other posts and just want to ask a couple of questions:
What is in walking distance of the London Eye that two 40 somethings and an 11 year old would enjoy?
I am also thinking of booking thriller at the Lyric Theatre with a package of dinner ay planet hollywood before it - are the restaurant and the theatre close to each other?
Any recommendations for a journey by public transport from Teddington travelodge to the London Eye and then back from the Lyric theatre to Teddington in the evening.
Thanks in advance x0 -

Generally just enjoying the South Bank, and The Imperial War Musueum."If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools"

You can walk across the jubilee bridge near the eye and be in Covent Garden/Trafalgar Square in 15-20 minutes.
Train from Teddington to Waterloo then walk to the Eye, about 5-10 minutes.0
