We are looking at getting a new laptop but have no idea where to start looking or what spec we need. The laptop will be primarily for my girlfriend to use in her shop but also for home use. We need it to handle a digital camera, digital camcorder and the usual internet, iPod and so on. Any idea's what we should be looking at and the price we should be paying?

Sounds as if an Apple MacBook would be ideal. Prices are about the same as an equivalent Dell but higher than the cheap rubbish laptops of course. The Macs can run Windows (if you must) but the MacOSX (operating system) gives you complete freedom from worries about viruses, spyware etc. and comes with free software (iTunes, iMovie, iDVD etc.)
I have a camcorder and an iPod so I use iMovie and iTunes all the time.
Check out Apple's refurbished models here:

They are slightly cheaper and have had "teething troubles" rectified but you can't tell them apart from a new one.0 -
So I'm looking at around £700-£800 then? Hoped it would be a little less.0

You get what you pay for. You could try searching eBay for "MacBook".0

Cracking offer for a HP Nx6310 at Misco at the moment.
HP nx6310 Intel Core Duo T2300E / 15 XGA / 512M RAM / 80GB HDD / DVD+/-RW DL / Bluetooth / XP Pro / Laptop / Notebook PC
Price: £399.99 ex VAT (£469.99 inc VAT)
But there is a £50 mail in rebate from HP once you buy it0 -
I've just bought a refurbished black 13" MacBook from them direct for £699 saving £300, there's not a mark on it so I reckon it must be one someone's bought and sent back during the cooling period.
Buying direct from them gives you a 1yr warranty (read the details before buying) and assures you that it's been looked at by a Mac teche.
I've added an external hard drive to mine to cope with the volume of photographs I'll be putting on it at times.
