EON Central heating Care - how do you rate it?

We have had EON central heating care for many many trouble free years, but recently have had a problem with a fuse blowing in the boiler 3 times in the past year. Obviously something is causing this to happen, but they insist there is nothing wrong and replace the fuse.
Each time, we have had to wait approx 4 - 5 days for them to come out (last time was when it was icy cold). We have had no heating or hot water. They have on their records that I have a medical problem which means that I need hot water (for my medication to work) and warmth, but this seems to make no difference. When I call them up to make an appointment, it is the usual "you are not over 70 or under 5 or is it 3?"

We have now had to have a replacement timer switch. This was reported when the boiler was not working last time, I was told the engineer would have spares on the van. He didn't, so we have now waited 4 weeks for this to be fitted. OK, not a problem as we have had water and heat, but their time scales to come out are appalling

Can anyone recommend any other company that offers a good, swift service as we feel we have no option but to leave EON asap?

We have British Gas Homecare 200 and whenever we had to call them out for no hot water or heating issue, they have come on the same day or next day first thing. We don't have any medical needs or small children/elderly people living in the house.

They have always been quick to fix the problem, normally same day, can't even think if we ever had to wait for a part...and our boiler is nearly 30 years old...

We have a yearly boiler check/cleaning out etc and that always happens without any problems.

Use a local independent GSR RGI, who will give you prompt service and will be able to obtain spares usually in a couple of days. A month's wait for a timer is absurd.

They had the timer in stock at the depot, just the engineer didn't have one on his van. The month wait for was someone to come and do it for us.

Is there a website to find a local GSR RGI? I am more than happy to use local businesses, but usually like to have a recommendation from someone who has used them. Have asked around friends and neighbours and they seem to be with EON or no-one.

British Gas Homecare is worth looking at as well though. Thank you.

You could a site like Which Local. Local parish mag ads?
A lot of the rated trader sites are full of self promoters.
Discount almost anyone advertising in Yellow pages as 'A1++ Emergency Plumbing'
As Canucklehead says, make sure you check their GSR status before booking anyone.

Eon offer a very poor service. My boiler broke so called them up only to be told engineer will come out in a weeks time. Suggested to person on phone how does that work as they state they provide a service 365 days a year.... Asked to speak to manager, he told me they do not state a call-out time. How deceiving is that???? Take my advice do not take EON central heating cover. You will be better off getting service from elsewhere, unless you want to wait around for a week for your boiler to be fixed.

Ha, you were duped. You wanted to know call out "date" but the manager answered "time":D

    Welcome to the forum BTW.

A service 'available 365 days a year' does not mean that you will get an appointment the same day or even next day! It simply means that engineers operate 365 days a year-you will get the next available appointment, which includes weekends and holidays.

  • They are useless. They wouldn't perform an annual boiler inspection because the boiler in our bungalow is in the attic. The engineer who came round to do the service told us he wasn't allowed to climb the ladder under health and safety rules and had they known where it was located they wouldn't have taken us on as customers. But as we pointed out to him the person who was supposed to come round and do a check on the system before confirming the contract was taken on never turned up. We phoned British Gas who installed the system and who looked after the system before we left them and they welcomed us back with open arms.
