Silly Tax Question

I moved house 4 months ago and made sure I changed my car licence over to new address using a V5C for amendment.

My car renewal notication has not arrived at new address and runs out at the end of this month. A Colleague has told me that I should have changed section six on the registration form also. Some kind of slip. I would have thought that my licence change over would have updated what-ever needs to be done for the renewal notification to find me. Anyway clearly I dropped the ball on that registration change at section 6. So I guess I will have to do it at the post office on a V10 form
however on the DVLA site it says ' If your vehicle needs taxing within next four weeks please take the registration certificate to the Post Office to tax and fill in section six.' Does that mean I can update my change of address on the form at the post office and they will send the slip off and all will be well for next time. I just want to turn up with the right paperwork after standing in a long queue it can be a pain to find out you do not have the right paperwork. I know about MOT and Insurance policy...anyone had this experience and know if what I am saying is correct ?

    yes
    do as you say
  • Have you got your V5C back with the correct address on it? If you haven't had that back then I would get onto the DVLA to chase it. I moved at the end of October and had my new V5C back within 3 weeks.

Otherwise, it may be useful to check with the DVLA what they advise. My partner's tax ran out end of Dec and he got the reminder between Christmas and New Year. He contacted the DVLA to chase it just before Christmas and they told him that as the address on the V5C and their systems was correct and up to date, he could tax it online without any problems. In the end his reminder turned up the day before his new tax disc.

May be worth giving them a ring - may save you spending ages standing in line in the post office, and then getting hassle from some counter clerk on a power trip (I know people who've had some bad experiences with counter clerks getting ideas above their station).
