Help with flying with a printer?!!

Hi, I wonder if some1 can help me, my sister is going to Tenerife to see a friend and she is taking a printer over for her friend.
Now does she have to pack this into her suitcase and use her normal allowance, or she has heard some where that she can pack it into a box and hand it some where else to go in the hold bit and it wont have to count towards her luggage allowance

Also she doesnt want to send it own separatley as the cost of it

next time we are slightly over weight with the luggage due to the wifes 40 pairs of shoes for a weeks hollies,we should just pack em in a Lexmark box ?:rolleyes:

It will count as part of her luggage allowance whether it's in a suitcase or its own box. (indeed with some airlines having 2 items in the hold may cost more anyway).

If it's a smallish inkjet she might be able to fit it in as hand luggage.

The baggage handlers will through it around, I wouldn't bother really, probably too risky of damage.
