Kitchen Fitter quote - help.

Hi chaps/chapesses.

I have a Howdens kitchen waiting to go in.

I had a fitter come around to quote (recommended by several people i know).

Its about 14 units, intregrated applicance, extractor & ducting, some modification required under the sink units due to the location of the water main etc.

A 'bloke in the pub' i was chatting to told me that a fitter should cost no more than £150 a day, so, i was suprised when this chap quoted me £1100 for a 4 day job.

This is the first time i have been through this process and was wondering what other people have paid?

Any thoughts gratefully received.

Cheers.

Don't forget it's probably going to be a 2 man job. To get units and worktops into position and fix them would be almost impossible to do alone.

£1100 sounds quite reasonable for what you want. You can get other quotes for comparison, but if this guy comes with recommendations, you'd do well to heed them.

I agree £1100 is fair money. I paid £1050 for almost exactly the same job 12 months ago. He almost certainly will not be on his own as a fair chunk of the work is a 2 person job.

Also, don't underestimate the recommendations. You can spend a fortune on a kitchen but if the fitter is rubbish, you will be VERY disappointed.

Jobs like this are priced not on a day rate but on an £a per wall or base unit, £b per length of worktop, £c per hockeystick mitre, £d per worktop cutout, £e per appliance to existing electrics or plumbing, £f per appliance to new electric or plumbing etc etc etc. However long it takes is however long it takes.

    £1100 sounds very reasonable.

"Bloke down the pub" hasn't got a clue.

hehe, that's what i suspected. I just thought i should clarify with the MSE's.

Considering that Magnet quoted me £3k fitting for the same suite, i don't think it's too bad! ;)

He comes recommended and has a window to get started next week, so i think it's turning into a no-brainer.

To echo others, that is reasonable. Fitting is a skilled job, or at least it should be.

Blokes in pubs are well known for giving accurate information(I don't think!).
Anyway, if you are not happy with the quote, the simple answer is to get another couple of quotes.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.
