But how do you get a utility bill if you are not a UK resident?0

a utility bill from the country you live in, this shows your address and the certified passport verifies who you are.

Let me put it this way: within the last year I applied for accounts with all the banks I mentioned, apart from Barclays Wealth who offer nothing of interest to me. All were accepted and opened apart from State Bank of India who were happy to take me on as a non-resident but who kept asking for sillier and sillier bits of paper, and so I gave up on them because they annoyed me.
The only documentation I provided to the other banks was my passport and a printed document showing my Thai address, which was exactly what they asked me for.
My main reason for concentrating on those banks was that they accepted R105 non-res tax forms, which few banks do. I also found several other banks that would accept non-res customers but they wouldnt accept R105 forms, so I passed them by.0 -

I heard that less and less banks are accepting that form, anyone know of bank(s) now deffo accepting R105?
Anyone had experience banking with BOI (Bank of Ireland) either offshore (IOM) or on UK mainland? Pretty basic website.
Thanks.0 -
Some of the UK registered Indian banks accept the R105, e.g. Punjab National Bank. PNB's UK operations are protected by UK FSCS.0

Remember October 2008? Icelandic banks failing, pretty useless depositor's schemes.
Not a place to keep a fairly large savings balance imho
I had an acct with KSF, a failed icelandic bank based in the IOM. I got back 100% of my money, plus 5% interest. Otherds who had savings in excess of 50K, have at this point I beleived reeived 80p in the pound with new tranches of money coming from the receivers throughout the year.
So, until you get over 50K (their deposit limit), I would be OK with saving there.0
