can you get a branch to write a cheque

Years ago i use to have an instant saver account with abbey. When i needed to write a cheque out to someone, i would pop into my local branch and ask them to print a cheque off.

Do the savings accounts and ISA allow you to do this.if you go into branch.

many thanks in advance.

  • They do but they'll charge you for it. Not 100% sure if it's applicable to all banks but it would be best to cheque with them first ;)

Santander for instance will but would charge £10, probably better off requesting your own cheque book.

    Nationwide

"Savings accounts are not intended to be used to make general payments; a current account would be more appropriate if your intention is to make withdrawals. In line with others in the financial sector we now make a charge of £10 for withdrawals or payments using what Nationwide describes as a 'counter cheque' and others call a banker's draft. We do not make this charge if the amount is over £1,000, or if the cheque is made payable to yourself."

  • Online savings accounts let you transfer the money out to, say, your current account, from which you could write your own cheque. Some savings accounts let you send money to any sort-code/account-number, others only to a nominated "linked" (current) account.
  • I used to get counter cheques written by Abbey National to me for free from my Flexi saver account. Not sure if this still works with Santander now.

Ok never mind, its the same question above..

Santander policy is not to charge for counter cheques from savings accounts.

Cheques from current accounts incur a £10 charge.

The official policy is that counter cheques are only issued for £1000 minimum and can be made payable to yourself or a third party. If you ask nicely they may let you have one issued for under £1000
  • Britannia still do that.
Can I find out my credit score?
You do not have a single credit score or rating. Different organisations take different information into account when working out your credit score and may have different scores for different products. (Kindly from Experian)
