Your opinions on bathroom shaver sockets

We've just had a new bathroom installed. It's quite contemporary and modern and whilst ordering various bits and pieces we ordered a shaver point socket. Now I'm not sure if I want it  We've just had all the walls plastered too and I'm worried it'll be the first thing people see as they walk in; it's not discrete, it's about 20cm long. Are they expected in bathrooms? We've always coped without one in the past and now I don't know what to do. Any opinions please?

  • Hi,
Well I would say dont bother with it! Do you use an electric shaver?
Surely most new shavers now are cordless?

I agree that the socket looks very unsightly. It wont make any difference to the bathroom if you come to sell the house - very old fashioned now I would say.

Personally I'm a wet shave man - nothing can beat it!

thank you, you have confirmed my thoughts. Hubby thought it may be useful for charging up elec toothbrushes but on reflection I think it's going to look quite ugly mounted on the wall.

weve just had a new bathroom installed, and decided to put a shaver socket in. yes, it does look a bit ugly as its white and bulky, compared to the chrome streamlined look we have gone for. but, like you, we thought it easier to charge toothbrushes in the bathroom, rather than have to kep remembering to take the toothbrush to another room to charge, and then remember to take it back in the bathroom again.

however, its doesnt look so bad, its worth it just for the convenience

I agree with flea72. We use our bathroom shaver point to charge the electric toothbrushes.

We had a new bathroom a couple of years ago all tiled, same dilemma as you, in the end we decided to do without as it would spoil the look of the tiling especially as it would have been directly opposite the bathroom door.

Fortunately our airing cupboard backs onto one of the bathroom walls so we had an electric socket fitted in there to charge the toothbrush, razors etc.

try a mirror or cabinet with built in socket, much more discreet, or there are remote transformers for sockets so there is a sprung lid top of approx 50mm square looks just like a brushed plate

We did our bathroom last year & installed one for charging electric toothbrushes & my husbands re-chargeable shaver.

It's a shiny mirror chrome one (matches the taps) & is low profile & no visable screws. So it doesn't stick out.

Its very modern looking. We have a fitted bathroom & I had it placed a couple of inches above the worktop, so I can charge things on there.

Got it in screwfix direct, look under the low profile section.

I have a combined striplight/socket above one of the mirrors - wouldn't be without it and now old enough to be retro-chic
