Free AVG is still available, they just changed the version from 7.1 to 7.5

I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.
  • Hi,

I'm still on AVG Free, got a message back end of last year about change and upgraded then, the latest defs are:

    7.5.441 268.18.2/695 18/02/2007 16:35

You can check out their forum for some details.

Ditto, I've used both and Avast does seem a more complete product. Plus they force updates several times a day, so when there was a recent big new virus mine updated 3 times will I was on the PC. (You get a vocal message saying it has updated).

which scared the bejeezus out of me when I first heard it :)

I found avast a little intrusive - I don't want AV software to constantly try and remind me how good it is at stopping evhul(tm) hackers from breaking my internet ;)

As blisteringblue and oldbuffer say, Avast is a very good product as well. It's probably worth trying both and see which you prefer. Being the decisive person I am I've installed AVG and Avast on different pcs (so household is probably about 50:50).

You can disable the annoying voice in Avast in Program Settings
