  • Unwina, If we have interpreted npowers answer about sol accounts correctly it is ludicrous.
Present gas charges are (ex VAt) for the first 4572 kwh: Standard tariff 4.412 and for SOL 4 4.265. If the standard tariff is reduced by 17% but sol is left as is then the standard price for the first 4572 kwh will be 3.661 . This is substantially cheaper than Sol4 (but perhaps not so for sol 6). Obviously it will have the same effect on the subsequent units.
If that is true then I will be changing in April when I have received my first annual £60 rebate.
Sorry, just realised npower said price reduction was to be 16%, this will bring standard cost down to 3.706, still much cheaper than sol 4!

The problem is that inflation is linked to gas and electric prices and the Bank of England respond as they has done to the historical effect and try to dampen the rising inflation by increasing interest rates therefore causing further misery.
So let' s get prices down and then perhaps the inflation target will be met

I have another couple of months to pick up my annual discount and then I'll judge whether I am getting adequate price custs or not. I cannot believe that there are not a large number of customers affected here but I don't care what they think they can get away with as its so easy to change these days its a no brainer to me.

I think the majority of customers, of all companies, have no idea what tariff they are on and will do absolutely nothing; and that is what the utility companies rely on. Why else would BG have retained so many gas customers over the years when they were the most expensive; albeit not their fault.

i heard that the old SOL prices will be reduced but that the new sol 6 will remain unchanged
  • Ive been told that anyone who signs up with NPower between now and when the prices drop, will be entitled to a month's free gas as recompense.

They have also upped their direct debit bonus to £80 a year.

Also the guy I spoke to said that the 3% drop in electric prices was only the beginning. There could be a greater decrease in the electric.

I hope this is true, as SOL 5 prices did increase in october, when sol 6 remained the same. It is true that the online discount will increase to £80, but proportionaltely for the year. i.e. if your discount is due in october, and the increase happens in April, you will receive £70 this year.

My local pub 'could' cut their prices in the future too, and I 'could' find a tenner walking down the street today. My view is don't believe it until you see it. That goes for all companies, not just nPower!

The £80 discount comes into affect for all direct debit customers from now. The people on your SOL tariff should be coming down
