Painting over tiles?

My bathroom has tiles that have been painted over, with what looks like normal matt paint rather than tile paint.
I can't afford to get it re-tiled for a while (and don't have the skills to do it myself), but I can't stand the colour it's been painted (a sort of yellow colour, which goes badly with the green suite!)
I was thinking of just painting it all white until I can save up to get the whole bathroom redone. I've been looking at tile paints, but if the tiles have already been painted will the tile paint work? Do I need to remove all the old paint first? Or could I get away with using the tile paint over the painted tiles, or even 'normal' paint over them? It'll only have to last a year or so

proper tile paint is expensive and probably a waste of time over the paint you have.
i would just use any old paint, over the top of that paint.
and you may have to do it again over the year or so.
ps
i dont like like tile paint anyways. ive never seen a decent tile paint job.Get some gorm.0
