For my rescue coming I got some stuff and picked rest up after she came.
    Right away I got

    Bed
Collar and lead ( just a simple lead to begin with)
wet and dry food (check what type he/she eats)
    bowls
toy of each kind ie. 1 ball, 1teddy, 1 squeaky. No point going overboard unless he already plays with a certain type, Kia only plays will the ball.
    Brush
    ID tag.

Since she has arrived I have picked up treats, a different collar and lead, more balls, shampoo, first aid, flea treatment for home and some other bits and bobs.

Ah, forgot about that. Go for a small greyhound or a whippet muzzle rather than the Baskerville ones I recommended, these will be designed to suit her faceshape if she's got the pointy type head.
Could also be worth looking at martingale style collars if she's got the typical little skull, thick neck - prevent them slipping it as easily as they can a regular collar.

have a home visit today from the local Labrador rescue centre. we have not had a dog ourselves but have been brought up in homes with dogs of various types. Not particularly worried but would like to thank all posters for the advice given throughout the thread.

will let you know how it goes.

    [update]

Just had our visit. Very nice lady went through everything we needed to know. seemed to like our place and other than a couple of areas of the fence that need some repairs, which i was doing this weekend anyway, said the garden was ideal.

So, it's just a waiting game now.
Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today!
Cos if you do it today and like it...You can do it again tomorrow.. :p
