Leaking UPVC Bay Window

During some heavy rain last month I noticed a puddle of water on the inside window ledge of my UPVC bay window. The water marks on the plasterboard are about 12" long x about 1" right at the top of one end of the window. I also saw some drops of water at the top of the frame.
I had a look at the top of the bay but couldn't see anything to suggest where the water was getting in though there were plenty of little cracks which I'm guessing have happened over the years through weathering though none seemed to have gone right through. The windows were installed before I moved in 10yrs ago. Using mastic I covered the cracks as best I could in the cold.
I noticed with the rain yesterday that the plasterboard was a little damp again, though no water drops or puddle this time.
Does anyone know of a good product like a paintable sealant I can use on the UPVC as the stuff I've seen doesn't seem to be suitable for this use.
Or maybe a paintable fibreglass compound like that used to patch up canoes and boats?????
I'm proposing to cover the whole flat surface of the bay window.
I'm not in a position to replace the window right now but appreciate whatever I do will only be a short term answer until I can replace it.
Thanks.

try ct1 - http://www.amazon.co.uk/CT1-UNIQUE-SEALANT-CONSTRUCTION-ADHESIVE/dp/B003C9WDP6/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top
it comes in white , you can apply it to wet surfaces0 -
Already tried a similar product but really want something that is easily spreadable or even that can be painted on. Trying to spread a thin bead of mastic over the whole area is a sticky nightmare! As I cannot see where the water is getting in I'm thinking covering all of it is the simplest solution til I can replace the window.
As heavy rain is forecast for the next 2 days I have been up there today with plastic and duct tape. Hopefully that'll do the trick for now.0 -
Sounds like the sealant between the frame and its surroundings has perished. A pic. would be useful.
I would be extremely surprised if the frame itself is allowing water to get in. Suggest buying a product like below and clear out existing. (Maybe you can peel/rake out the old sealant without this)
Then inject a good quality silicone sealer and see if you're watertight.Forgotten but not gone.0 -
I was thinking it could be the UPVC flat roof bit of the bay window as there are plenty of little cracks all over it. I did re-mastic all around the edges of the frame where it meets the wall.
No pic for now as all taped up with plastic. Will see what happens over the next 2 days of rain and take it from there. Thanks for the info on the sealant remover.0 -
UPVC bay window is the good one option and instead of it you can the plastic shutters which are capable to stop the water to enter in your home and they are beautiful too.0

Is it possible to plate over the the existing upvc with a new board cut to the same shape and then glue a small upvc trim along the exposed edge to hide the joint between the old and new plate0
