hiya ,we r looking to buy a 40-42@ tv hd ready hdmi lcd or plasma which is best keep reading different things like plasma use more electricity and get very hot,which is the best picture quality,the bloke in comet said when they r showing tvs they put on a slow film so pic quality is better, if you were watching an action film the quality would be poor,when u go into the shops nd they just confuse me with all the jargon,up to 1000 pounds to spend tops,dont know which is the best spec,please please help my eyes are tired of looking on the net and im just getting more confused,thanks in advance.:T

"Watching an action film the quality would be poor" -utter nonsense, this guy obviously had no idea what he's talking about!
There are advantages and disadvantages to both plasma and LCD.. here's a good plain-english comparison of the two:

I switched from a standard definition plasma to high definition lcd recently, and haven't looked back.. This is the one I bought, and it's absolutely fantastic:

I'm no expert but I've heard it said that when you take everything into account (quality, cost etc) the general rule of thumb is choose an LCD up to 32" and Plasma larger than that."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Check out this thread, confirming that all flat-panel tellies with standard TV broadcasts are inferior picture quality to 'old fashioned' CRT. Plus flat-panel goes in the bin when there's a fault.0
