I do though question the wisdom of sending such people to areas where there are precious few jobs, and hence lower demand for housing, which is why it's cheap there to begin with.
Surely it would be better to just build more houses in the areas people want to live in, and where the employment exists to support them?
depends who you're shifting really doesn't it. makes perfect sense to move people who have no intention of ever working to the cheapest possible area of the country. let's face it, if you've been living in london for a few years and haven't got yourself a job, you're either unemployable or unemployed by choice, so it doesn't really matter how many jobs are going round your way.0 -
I’m not sure why you didn’t fit I’ve meet people from all over the country through work and my hobby and I find that for the most part people are the pretty much the same. I was in telecoms myself and got on well with people from all parts of the country.
Im an acquired taste apparently.0 -
This wouldn't be the first time. We all know of places known as "London overspill estates", there's some in Huntingdon, Cambrdgeshire and Haverhill, Suffolk, just off the top of my head.
Every town's had similar estates and moves and big relocations at some point.
In the 60s there was a big drive to get businesses to relocate out of London too.
These days, too, a lot of people living in any one area don't even have any affinity/history with that area, they're simply there....0 -
If the people they are getting rid of are the vile dole dossing lay abouts who make everyones life a misery them into contact with NO THANKS0

This will surely lower London rents and with them asking prices.
More supply and le4ss demand in London, could bring down the average property values for all of the UK.0 -

If they do actually carry this out I’m not sure they will, as a lot of these people won’t go willingly it will obviously have an effect on London houses prices but low paid workers will still be priced out.
What about the areas these people are moved to what effect are hundreds of people being forced into cheaper areas, normally areas of high unemployment and low wages going to have. I would imagine prices will rise and more of the people who live in that area will be priced out.0 -

Maybe so, and there will also be an increase in the need for social and health services in these areas, as those at the bottom tend to use social services more, and cost more to treat for serious health conditions as they access health services reactively rather than proactively.0
