Very few if any of them have the bosch pump. Still a good car though as they'll do 70mpg.westwood68 wrote: »scaredofdebt: for some reason the Javascript on my PC is playing up and I can't quote your message directly, but a PUG 106 or Saxo with the 1.5 XUD diesel would do what you want.
I've seen a few that are very nice.
Get one with a Bosch fuel pump and you can also run on Veg oil0 -

it's not in my area either. I'm 25 miles from Blackpool and that's right on the other coast. But I do like Volvo T5's and it's worth a punt at that price; even if it doesn't last that long it's on coilovers and 17inch alloys. So sell those and a few other bits (alternator, calipers, turbo etc) and weigh the car in.... I've got my money back0 -
In my recent searches I have found older Honda accords/civics or Hyundi Sonatas to be unbelievably good value for money.
There are a lot that have been owned by 'older' people with FSH and lower miles (well not Taxi miles anyway) and are pennies because no-one wants them0 -
Honda Accord can't come highly recommended enough from me.
Mine has been fantastic, at has recently turned 140k.
Might need a few jobs for its MOT, but nothing massive.0 -

Did you get the Volvo? How is it?0 -
Picked it up last night. Although tradition says that my mate drives it back so he can pick up if there are any issues so I've not driven it a lot myself.
As you'd expect for £450 it's not perfect. The traction control off, light and ABS light are staying on, but a few sites say that this can be related to the MAF... and the MAF is disconnected as it needs replacing.
Also turns out the near side front tyre needs replacing - been run on a flat so can't be repaired... and a bit of a clonk from the same side.
Gearbox is nice and tight for the mileage, and it had £700 spend to get through the 2001 MOT - only done 8k since.
It's not perfect but you can't expect it from an old car, as long as it sees me through the winter and does what I need it to do, it'll be fine. Not like I'll lose much when i sell it.
Although probably not the best idea to get it when I include the cost of petrol (400 miles) into the cost.0 -

The trick will be other than the tyre, not to spend anything on it.
Start sorting out ABS lights and suspension clunking and you're relatively cheap purchase will stand you the price of a good car.0 -
National Tyres said that the front disks and pads need replacing. but the only reason I took it there for the tyre was because we share a car park, one of my mates has a garage and he's confirmed that they're fine.. so that's alriht.
The clunking is the top mount which is about £25 and one of the rear calipers needs freeing up so hopefully that's the cause of the ABS light and traction control.
I'm at the point where I'm wondering if it was worth buying and sort of regretting it. but when the issues are sorted I'll probably change my mind.0 -
Seeing as someone mentioned Volvos ---does mine qualify ?
Volvo 1995 2.3 Turbo estate.Bought off Ebay July 2007 at 78,000 miles.
Purchase price £720.00 including full service history, new MOT and 4 new tyres.
Passed every MOT so far at first time including this year.
Service myself and apart from tyres and normal service items have had to replace clutch slave cylinder, exhaust backbox, balljoints and flexi brake pipes.Enormous cost of replacement parts about £200.00 and mileage covered 63,000.
Current value £700.00.
Fully comp insurance under £200.00.
Mpg around town about massive 20.
Toolkit required a screwdriver, couple of spanners and a big hammer.Expensive diagnostic equipment needed---nil.
Absolutely brilliant engines and built to a specification not cost rather like the old mercs.Pity the older motors are getting harder to find in decent condition but nice to see you guys going out there, especially those who appreciate the older Rovers.0 -
You've got lucky! it'll probably be the T5 which is the same engine that both of mine are but I've not been so lucky on the repairs.0
