Probably surprise you what you may get on ebay, workmate has one as a stock car, think they're quite popular for it.0

Yeah I heard one of the 3door petrol models was popular as a stock car but didn't think the diesels were really sought after by anyone, I'm most likely wrong though!GC2012: Nov £130.52/£125
GC2011:Sept:£215Oct:£123.98Nov:£120Dec:£138Feb:£94.72

They just throw other engines in them. My last banger, a 1.7d Corsa 3 door is now a stockie somewhere and I've another 5 door with sunroof one on the drive that'll probably end up as a donor (apparently the suspension on the corsa b and novas the same or at least interchangeable).0

Electric aerial doesn’t retract (can’t use a carwash)
Drivers seat lumber is worn
Paint is faded on roof and boot lid.
Radio is missing a button and unable to pick up many stations
Small cigarette burn in rear passenger seat
Driver’s seat belt doesn’t retract
Not sure if Air con is fully working (suspect needs a re gas)
Wind noise at speed from top right of driver door
Both wing mirrors are tatty (held together with tape and a nylon tie)
...especially when you're doing in excess of 17,000 miles a year. Riding around in an old nail may be OK when you're doing 20-30 mile journeys (I've done plenty of years of bangernomics myself) but it gets old real quick when you're regularly doing 200+ mile journeys. I'd rather spend £4-£5k on a one owner 3-4 year old ex-company car with full main dealer service history for the 80-90k on the clock, have it for 4-5 years riding around in comfort knowing it'll get me there every time and not need a drop of oil between services.0 -
The 600 is as comfortable as a Mondeo, maybe more so.
And by the time you add on all the bits you've had done, it must have cost £1000 a year or so.
As to reliabilty our bangers have been fine, we've had a banger that's done the same mileage in the same time, and had only a couple of hundered quid spent on it in four years, plus the normal service items.
I tend to drive whichever car we have that'll do the job, so it normally tends to be the smallest.0 -
Bargain motoring at it's best. Why spend loads of money on a new car just to have it scratched at the supermarket car pack. My current car is over 10 years old and I will run it until the end then I'll be buying a bangernomics.0

we are banger running at the mo, after my 03 meriva engine management went. Last 2 cars where a N reg Astra, £200 with years MOT, went through one with little bit of welding needed, nextdoor neighbour did it for crate of beer lol. Had for almost 2 yrs, only sold it becuase fuel tank was leaking sold this Jan for £80.
We also had a s reg almeria, £350 with 8mths mot, scraped when MOT ran out this jan as needed new cat convertor, and cost more then car worth, got £160 for scrap for it.
So bangers we are running at mo are £350 03 reg suziki swift yrs mot, brought from above neighbour lol
and a £200 s reg renault scenic 6 mths mot on it0 -
52 Corsa C Sxi 1.2 50000miles £300 no MOT or TAX
Needed new brakes pads, front disks and gear linkage tax and mot to put back on the road that was about £300ish
No other faults and everything else works.
Parkers car guide values it £18000 -
BMW 328i Touring.
Not your usual Banger - But £700 after spotting it on ebay locally. It sold for £840, buyer didn't collect, I did!
Now, this car makes a strong case for "MPG is not the be all and end all!"
So, bought with 162,000 miles on it:
Dual Zone Climate Control, half leatehr Sports interior, Electric everything, all working
193Bhp 2.8 Straight Six
Traction control and ABS
Really nice to drive.
Exceptionally comfortable on long journeys.
I ran it for 17,000 miles averaging 30mpg, and the average cost per mile was 28p.
However, I did do a bit of upkeep, New rear dampers, new brakes all round, it needed new brake lines doing at one point. Thing was, it was such a good car that I couldn't ignore little faults, which is where it failed on true "bangernomics". However, sourcing parts myself and doing work myself meant that I Kept my hand in with mechanics and enjoyed working on the car. It did 1000 mile tours of Scotlands and a 2,000 mile european road trip with no bother whatsoever.

I like to think of it as Bangernomics with a touch of class and pace.
Sold it last month for £700! Depreciation (but not cost) free motoring!0 -

That's were I fail as well.
The one I just bought, I had to change the oil, oil and air filter, plugs, antifreeze, I couldn't just leave them, knowing they needed doing.
I enoy it, even though the neighbours think I'm mad at my age, and it should be down the garage.0
