Uninsured Driver - Role of the MIB?

I think the clue is in the "UNINSURED" bit
No. You are mistaken about this. Poor advice!
Here is chapter and verse for you from the MIB:We recommend that you make a claim for repair with your own
insurer. You do not have to do this, but the repair will be carried out quicker and will not be delayed by any enquiries that we will have to make about the circumstances of the
accident.0 -

The incident is still reportable to the insurer and will affect future premiums even if you don't lose the NCD.
I'm pretty sure anything you get from your own insurance company can't subsequently be reclaimed from the MIB0 -
If I can recall the time I had to do it I told my insurer for "information only", paid to get my car fixed out of my own pocket then claimed from the MIB. Back then you had to pay an excess, I think it was around £200, but I don't think you have to do that anymore.
In thoery you could have your comp insurance take care of it then claim off the MIB and pay back this to your insurance co.0 -

As above, I'm petty sure you can't do that. If you claim off your own insurance you can't then reclaim from the MIB and neither can your insurance company
I think credit hire/repair can be reclaimed but there have been court cases about it so it need to be done correctly0
