Reroute copper and ancient junction box

Hi, any idea how much BT(or is it openreach) would charge to
a: reroute about 4m of copper (from where the phone line connects to our house) and
b: replace ancient junction box with NTE5.

I assume only BT/openreach can do this.

    But it depends what you want moved,the external drop cable or the 77A junction box where the external is changed to internal cabling.

    It'll be the internal cabling from the 77a junction box (to new NTE5).

    Get a local sparkie to do the job - much cheaper.
    Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

    Cheaper to do it yourself,cost you the guts of a tenner all in,just make sure you make a note of what colors connect to #2 & #5 in the existing socket & the 77A & connect accordingly..

    The cable from the 77A is just twin-wire (not really sure what's its job is?). So I would (if I did it illegally myself) just have to connect these to the A and B terminals of the NTE5 (not even having to worry about polarity?). As we have no extensions I won't even need a Krone tool?

    Perhaps its too easy...

    Yep,but use a Krone tool.I've been to too many faults where someone has used a knife or a screwdriver blade to punch down the cable.Just make sure the cables connect;

    #2 Blue white on 77A to 'B'
    #5 white Orange on 77a to 'A'

    Ok, but just to check, the 2 wires (from what I called 77A but perhaps is something else) are quite thick and not coloured - surely just screw onto the 2 terminals.

    On that type yes,the newer ones have punch down Krone connections.When you say 'not colored' do you mean they are plain white,black ect...

    Its just very old stiff 2 core (figure 8 if you know what I mean); black/grey sheath.

    Ah,so one gray & one black wire (twisted pair) then?..As long as you connect the the new wire (say the blue) to where the gray wire in the junction box connects & again in the terminal it connects to in the phone socket (#2 or #5) & the same for the black wire you should be OK,but make sure to connect the wire going to #2 on the old box to the 'B' on the NTE5 & the #5 to the 'A'.
