BT early termination charges increase

I got a message in my email today that informs me that BT will be increasing their early termination charges.
We're increasing some of our Early Termination Charges*. More information, including the new charges, are detailed at https://www.bt.com/earlytermination.

I live in rented accommodation and always take termination charges into account when choosing services. It seems outrageous that exit charges can change so drastically after entering a contract.

Can I reject these changes and if so, how?

Since it's not a fixed price contract, prices can be increased at any time.
Even if BT only increased prices once a year, then hundreds of people (poor deluded fools) would still have signed up the day before and might feel hard done by.
If the prices were reduced the day after you signed up, would you also want to reject that?

This is not a major increase, especially when compared to what BT actually used to charge on an early termination (the full amount due). As I recall, BT introduced the revised charges and got a big pat on the back from OFCOM for their pro activeness - however, the fact remains even with the new charges these are still less than what would normally be due under contract.

I can be sympathetic to your plight, but then if you required short-term service without penalty, you can get this but at a higher cost (even for periods of a week or more). Faced with a discounted termination, compared to the full cost of an unused line, any discount is preferable - and at least that still applies. Just try that with a mobile!
