Amazing online used car parts finder
I've tried this service 3 times now and have been immensely delighted with the results. There may be more like it but the one I know of is called https://www.247spares.co.uk
You enter your number plate, and it then identifies the year and make of your car (even the colour!) for confirmation. Then after you confirm it gives you a conveniently indexed menu of parts categories, and a further place to enter elaboration of what you are looking for. You also can select your region. You enter your celphone number and email address, and then numerous subscribing car breakers and used parts dealers get your query and if they have the part you're looking for they text or email you. The replies can come as fast as one day although I've usually given them about three days in order to guage the best price available. The dealers usually specify a short guarantee on the item as well, and they usually ship it express courier to your home.
This has saved me hundreds of pounds compared to parts costs quoted by garages and manufacturer dealerships. Now when my car needs any work I ask for an estimate to specify how much for parts and how much for labour and I opt to find the part myself. The savings can be immense. And I have found that if I have any question about a particular part the breakers have always been happy to answer my questions in sufficient detail and have all been friendly and reliable.
