Door widths

Could anyone tell me what the munimum "opening" width of an Exterior Door would be in order to get furniture in and out, i.e. Settees etc?

There is no minimum as such. Most front doors are 33" (and sometimes 36") wide by 82" high. However, I have seen many that are much smaller, especially in older houses.

Modern sofas are often a problem getting through the door, and you may have to check that parts of the sofa can be removed to get it into your house, or buy smaller sofas!!

My external door openings are only 30" and internal are only 28" wide.We had to remove our windows to get furniture in.Thankfully we now have patio doors so getting furniture in is no longer a problem but getting it to other rooms is a nightmare.I always carry a tape measure with me if im buying furniture just to make sure i can get it to where its going.

I know it's like asking "how long is a piece of string".

In middle of moving back door to another opening that was there (outhouse door with wood frame). However,on returning home after it was fitted, I was shocked to measure the actual opening was only 27 inches with about 3 inch of frame each side.
No idea what I am going to do now.
