Splitting a tap...

Hi
I want to connect a dishwasher and washing machine to one tap without using one of these.. http://www.screwfix.com/p/washing-machine-y-piece-bsp/81000
I tried one and it fell to pieces...
I cannot find anything to split 1 tap into 2 anywhere - I tried one designed for a garden (I'm using a garden tap) and it too just split.
Seems an obvious thing but I can't find any solution!

If you dont want to turn the water off and install a proper t and isolation valve then use a self cutting washing machine tap

The dishwasher hose will screw straight onto the tap then...job doneYou may click thanks if you found my advice useful0 -
Cool, that looks like a neat solution... all the pipe work to the tap is half embedded in the wall though, I'd need a plumber to add the relevant... additions. I have found it pretty much impossible not to get messed about by these guys though0

ahh... that's more like it! Cheers...0

You could always chop the wall out enough to install the tap isolator, they arent very big, best thing i'd say is go down to wickes or bnq and have a look at these tap isolators so you can see the physical size of them. Then if you think you can chop the wall out enough get one and fit it.
If you do go ahead with the fitting then to air on the cautious side turn off the water whilst you do it....just in case !You may click thanks if you found my advice useful0 -
Cheers, I don't have a huge amount of faith in my amateur plumbing though!
Really want something like this... but they don't seem to be man enough for what I need... http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004AVOLC8/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_2?pf_rd_p=103612307&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B005MWYU3O&pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_r=0Q2R7EN8ZW473GKSVRNT0 -

wrong size fittings the dishwasher hose won't screw onto this
plus what are you doing that keeps causing them to split, i've fitted hundreds & never had a prob with splitting, you must be tightening them too much or putting to much strain on them & if the above isn't man enough (although wrong size) then i don't know what prob you have.I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
If you don't trust your own plumbing skills and you apparently don't trust professionals either. Then you seem to be stuck between a rock and a hard place.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
How about a pic?

Very much so... I've had endless hassles with really poor service, just unlucky I guess! Electrics and plumbing is an awful lot more expensive than I thought. Fair enough.
The garden splitter fitted the hoses fine - I used it successfully for months, it's a standard 3/4 inch thread, obviously it's not designed for that though and it broke. Could have been the cold I suppose though it's not been an issue before.
I just don't know what the problem was with the y piece - the other hose didn't fail so mabye it was the quality of the hose - http://buyplumbingonline.co.uk/products/Washing-Machine-Hose-2.5m-Blue.html
I'm not the only one to have hassles - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Washing-Machine-Dishwasher-Piece-Splitter/dp/B005AUMIZA/ref=pd_sxp_grid_pt_0_0
Either a rubbish hose or I did just over tighten it, I was fairly careful, but there you go. It didn't split, just fall apart under mains pressure, I couldn't get the hose to screw in and stay in.
Main problem is one tap and 3 uses - and I don't want to be screwing and unscrewing stuff. The taps mentioned by muckybutt sounds fine, but after my recent plumbing successes I'm not all that confident...
What did you want to see keystone?
Thanks for all the input folk, difficult for the layman to get a handle on what is possible, sensible, doable or desirable!0
