Halifax PPI - going direct over the phone?

Hi all

I called Halifax today to request my £5 credit refunding (I closed my card a while back and just had a statement).

Coincidentally I've been starting to write letters etc in line with the guide on this website on how to reclaim.

Anyway, when I called up, they said I can go directly through to their PPI department on Monday if I call back, and they'll start processing my claim over the phone.

Is it a wise decision to go via this route?

thanks
Matt

No harm in doing it over the phone Matt, just have your reasons to think it was mis sold at hand as you will be asked ;)

Thanks for the quick response, I wasn't sure if it would be "frowned upon" to do it directly as there's so many letter templates etc. Admittedly I've not had a lot of time to look into it all yet.

As for the excuse, I'm one of the ones who was genuinely missold it! I was quite naive with money back then, and didn't know what was going in or out. After several months I actually bothered to have a look at a credit card statement and queried the high cost - called them up, found out about this CCRC thing (this was 2008), and cancelled it immediately, but I'd had it several months on a 2 grand balance!

It was definitely never mentioned and the guy who sold the card to me was a right shady bloke who was moved to a different branch shortly after!

I've no idea what to expect to get back, but anything would be nice.

    thanks again

Hi Matt, no it's not frowned upon to do it over the phone, it is often quicker to do so, just make notes of when you phone and who you talk to for your records. The good thing about doing it via a questionnaire is that you have a hard copy and can forward that to the FOS if necessary at a later date (should you be turned down) hopefully that won't happen but if it does you can fill in a questionnaire then ;) good luck
