Help, account closed too soon. Any advice please

Husband and I are seperating, which included seperating from our joint bank account. We both went to the bank signed and agreed transfer of direct debits for me, including removing me from the account at the end of the month. The bank have removed me prematuraly and say there is nothing they can do. They suggested I use the overdraft on my new account incurring charges which I cannot do as I have no cheque book or bank card, I also do not want to start off being overdrawn. I still have money in the joint account which I am now having to ask my husband for, making the situation all the more difficult and painful. Any suggestions on how to complain to the bank would be greatful. Thanks
