Hi
Am a bit baffled, have just sold a mobile on Ebay, no watchers or bidders until literally the last seconds, when a USA address buyer has bought it. Yippee I thought, then read the mail he sent me which reads as follows:
hey seller, am the winner of your item and i will be glad to tell you that i want to buy this item for my daugheter in Nigeria has her birthday present and i will be paying via paypal and i want the item to be sent to my daugther in nigeria ..so i will be adding a sum of £10 postage cost...notify kashshogie@yahoo.co.uk by replying..thanks...pls email me asap..thanks and God bless..
Terry
Very unsure as to whether this is genuine or not, Nigerian scams seem to ring a bell with me, how could this go wrong and what should I do? Many thanks

As others have said, this is a scam. There are several various ways it works, but the upshot of it is that you will send the phone and lose your money. (Do a search on here and you will find loads of stories about this happening).
Firstly, and most importantly, if you get any e-mails from paypal saying that you have been sent a payment (or for any other reason) to do with this transaction, don't click on the links. The chances are it is a phishing e-mail. Always log into PayPal and eBay via the official sites.
Report the buyer to eBay and then file a Non-Paying Bidder Dispute (I believe you have to wait 7 days to do this, but hopefully if the seller has been banned before then, you can get your Fees back sooner).0 -
there's basically two roads it can go down, one is a phishing scam+ fake notifications that they have paid you or secondly payment by stolen credit card/hijacked account which will go throug and then at some point in the future (near or very distant) paypal will take the money back from you.Bought, not Brought0

So if this happens how do you get around not sending it. Surely it looks like the buyer has paid and fulfilled their side.Bamber19 wrote:there's basically two roads it can go down, one is a phishing scam+ fake notifications that they have paid you or secondly payment by stolen credit card/hijacked account which will go throug and then at some point in the future (near or very distant) paypal will take the money back from you.0 -
tell them to send you the cash (sterling) first.
btw, there are pigs flying over me hoose right now.Get some gorm.0 -
I had one of these buyers - reported it to eBay immediately, astonishingly they NARU'd the 'buyer' and refunded the FVFs the same day. :eek:I only exist in my own mind - if you can see, hear or read me, you are a product of my imagination.0
