Recruitment Agencies Are Useless!!

I try not to use them too. But don't know if it is totally their fault -
They represent either the worst or best of clients I've found
I'm going to one such client in the morning about a temp role who had chance after chance to take me on last year...
...Could be interesting0 -
Agree, but how can you find out about jobs and apply direct?0
-
I'm registered with 4 agencies.
I usually call or email them on a Monday to let them know I'm still actively looking or available.
Not one has had a permanent role in that I could apply for since October last year.-Luckily though I am currently working.
These are very prominent companies too (Reed, Adecco etc)
My question is what are they actually doing with their 9-5 office time?:j0 -

I would love to know the answer to that one as well because when I was looking they never even had time to reply to my emails when telling them I was still looking for work. The recruitment agents in general are as thick as P*****t, as don't they realise that this weeks candidate could be their next weeks client.
I know that if I was a recruiter and I had a choice between an agency that treated me courteously and one that treated me like c**p, I would probably have a choice in the matter0 -
not really answering my question.0

I've registered with several recruitment agencies recently.
I send them an email each week to tell them I am still looking for work.
A couple have blocked my emails as spam.
That just about sums them up.0 -
Haven't come across any good recruitment consultants but boy plenty of bad ones. Some of them make your typical estate agents look like saints. Full of liars, bulls*****rs and in my experience some of them might have murdered their own grandmothers to get a sale.
I have experienced my fair share of bad RCs, and some morally dubious practices, but there are some awesome RCs out there.
Claiming benefits, working, applying for jobs, using agencies its all a game and you need to know the rules and how to play the game to your advantage.
A couple of RCs have opened doors for me that I would never have managed on my own.0 -

Well that's naughty isn't it. Here's an idea, why don't you drop them a letter stating that you had heard of a company with half a dozen job openings but couldn't get to notify them as they had blocked your email address. That will teach em:D. As I say most recruitmernt agents in general are as thick as P** ***T:mad:0 -
So what, the only CVs I read these days are the people who have been invited to interview, any decent HR software will search through 1,000s of CVs and produce a shortlist based on set criteria within a few seconds. I certainly dont have the time to read every CV that comes through the door.
Its hardly an onerous task to ensure your CV has the appropriate "buzz words", for the role and sector.
It works off buzz words. Example I was heavily involved in SAP project management in 97-2000, haven't used it since. Now all i get is agencies ringing me for SAP slots then telling me "Well you haven't used it since 2000".... I know so why ring if it's not relevant.
The only way to do ths accuratly is to do your job and read CV's.
reading some of the response on here is like letting them off the hook because they , the recruiters , can't be arsed to do their job!
They're worse than estate agents.
Imagine what other professions would be like if they couldn't be arsed to call you because it's too much effort and they saw certain word and kept getting it wrong.0 -
I'm plagues with them several times a day " What's your job situation". Well obviously looking which is why you pulled my CV off jobsite for this week!
Then refusing to tell you who a company is
then having the balls to ask if I've got any other interviews pending so they can go an pester the company. Don't tell them about anything you've got on the go.
I'm angry because I've just had to end a 20yr I.T career due to being f!!ked about by agency after agency calling and sending my CV into black holes, then from the same agency a new person will call asking the same dumb questions because they rarely keep notes about the last call and who from.
They've been so useless I've had to find work OUTSIDE OF I.T for the first time in my life despite having 10yrs project management experience.
And on Channel 4 recently is show their dubious acts of listing jobs that don't exist ( or speculative jobs they MIGHT have soon ) being listed on the governments jobcentre website. They've been allowed to get away with this because there's no one to check, but hopefully that's all going to come to an end soon.
Personally I think there's needs to be enforceable legislation with their dubious acts.
Recruitment agencies are the last refuge for someone with no administration skills0
