We had just gotten into bed, OH turned over and something gave in the middle. Looked underneath and the support beam had twisted so wasn't supporting the middle of the slats...and believe me we need it to!
Basically I have a kingsize sleigh bed which is quite low to the ground, its not one of those big chunky ones you see, its quite compact if thats the right word. It has wooden slats that rest on each side of the outer support beams. Then in the middle is the cross beam. It is attached to the head of the bed with a brass holder. the male part slots into the female part. It is meant to do this at the bottom but we are missing that, I don't know the make of the bed so I can't find a replacement and I've been trying!
Some of the slats are screwed into the cross beam, I don't know if they are meant to but the owner before us did. So because its not attached to the bottom of the bed it has probably been stood up just because its attached at the head and to the slats.
Anyway, the foot (block of wood) that is attached to this beam has been twisted, and the screw thats attached them has come apart.
So I know if I repair that it will be back to how it was before, BUT how do I stop it happening again? I don't see how I can attach it to the foot of the bed without a brass holder. Is there an alternative to this support beam, ie replacing it completely with something else. I am quite handy, just not with a saw. We are sleeping in the spare bedroom at the moment, I've just come in to sit on the bed, having tried to prop the support up and I am sinking and am scared of breaking the slats. I live in Leeds if thats of any help if I need to go shopping!

If OH is handy with a saw and screwdriver, He could make a new centre beam and support like I did for our spare bed. looks kind of like this below.
_________

This gives better support, stabillity and if he smoothes and rounds the ends in contact with the floor, it will slide quite easily. Total cost is about £5.

He isn't he would need a step by step guide! I can repair the current one, I just need a way of fixing the end of the beam to the base of the bed that sin't permanent, that way when I move next June it can come with me!Money money money.

I had a similar problem with the metal beam in the middle of my bed, is it just the block that supports the cross beam that is twisted, if yes what you can do is take the blocks off and replace with metal brackets (like shelf brackets but go to the DIY store and check what is best. Screwing the slats down actually makes this worse as fixing the slats puts more tension on the supports. The slats are supposed to move. I repaired my bed several times, but to be honest once it started to go, all repairs were temporary, and I have now resorted back to Divan style.0
