I'm not saying it will work but it's worth a try!If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0

OP, give it a go, you have nothing to lose.
But may I suggest that you DON'T point out that they have no right to deduct the money from your wages. In a weird way, if they do deduct the money it will be better for you because that is an unlawful deduction and a tribunal will order them to give you it back AND they will lose the right to claim it in any other way.
If you point this out to them, they will seek advice and even if they don't deduct it they may commence proceedings in the small claims court, which will be harder to defend.
So I'd keep my powder dry on that part if I were you.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -
I agree you should refuse to pay without more justification. I would keep making them provide more information until they get tired of it or take legal action and keep asking them questions that highlight their lack of adequate processes in making the costs clear.
The First Aid Training is particularly iffy as being related to personal development. Employers have a legal obligation to employ sufficient competent persons to provide first aid in the workplace. This course was for their benefit (in complying with their legal obligation) not yours, in fact there is no requirement for you personally to have undertaken it.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0 -

This is absolute nonsense! The employer is responsible for your health and safety and if you are a lone worker they are required to undertake a risk assessment and take practical steps to mitigate the risks. For example, by providing you with a "panic alarm" or a mobile phone so they can call you while you are on your own and discharge their responsibilities for your safety. How will a first aid course help if you are injured while working alone?Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment.
