EDF direct debit review - 'surcharge'?
I have just received a 'direct debit review' from EDF. This contains an annual statement of estimated usage (although it is in fact respectively 13 and 14 months since i switched electricity and gas to them, and only 2 months since I moved to a new tariff. They are demanding payment of the outstanding balance (176) by DD in march. (i mention that as it may be of interest to those looking at the spring zero balance policies).
However my question is about the estimate for the direct debit (this is the first time they actually shown any calculations ). They have of course incereased the DD only a month after setting it (tho not by much). The estimate contains an additional sum of £120.31 'surcharges' but no explanation of what this might be . Any ideas? [It isnt a the account balance as they are taking that. Discounts are also there as a credit. ]

I think the surcharge is actually your standing charge if your tariff has that. Try calculating, it might be this.0

Good thought. My standing charges would be 126.00 so ex VAT 120 is about right. I will check though.

This lines up with their DD policy which states that,at annual review, any debit balance greater than £150 will be immediately collected. See

Others have hinted at the explanation. This is taken from the Edf Q&A found via a search on "surcharge":)
What is the surcharge that appears on my bill / annual statemment? (yes it does say "statemment":D)
The surcharge is normally the daily Standing Charge, but it may also be for other charges we may need to apply (Gas Transporter charges, charges for missed appointments etc)
