Optimum miles for a diesel engine?
Does anyone know if it is true that a diesel engine becomes more efficient after a certain number of miles? I think I have heard that they get better after about 10,000 miles but don't know if it's true. I am trying to sell my motorhome which has done 12,000 miles and I think it might be worth mentioning if its a bonus. Any advice would be appreciated.
Many Thanks. Wendy. :j

This used to be true on previous generation diesels, but with the advent of common rail technology and the high toloreances that these engines run, the efficancy of the engine at 0miles is pretty much what you get over the life of the engine. A full service book and a vehicle that shows sign of care and attention are far more critical than the mileage. And diesels engines that have been looked after will run 200,000 with no problems at all0

I bought a 2001 Golf TDI last summer, while i was researching the vehicle,i read that it would take 20k for the engine to be fully run in,and obtain the normal MPG's etc.
A couple of reasons (so i am told) that diesels can do mega mileages are,
They run at lower RPM
The fuel is more oil based,so it has more lubrication in it.
Perhaps, thats why it takes ages to run them in properly?Sponsored by Tesco Clubcard Points !!0
