I find marks and spencer always have a good rate (maybe im being biased since i work for them!!) $ was 1.883 today.[/QUOTE

well you would lose $5 cents for each pound as TGE are now giving $1.93 for a pound.

Its better than when I exchanged which was at $1.92 (last week)
Save saynoto0870.com in your favorites, and stop giving companies more £££ dialling 0870 numbers when you can dial freephones or cheaper alternatives
call your credit card company, tell them that you want to leave, 99% of the time theyll lower your APR%
Remember when that Bank Manager or Salesperson smiles at you, all he sees is £ notes. Dont forget the motto, "the wider their grin, the more debt your in"

What would be really useful is a site that compares all the various rates available at any time.....bit like Martins Flightchecker.

Anyone out there with $2000 that wants to swap them for £1000 cash?

This was something that I had thought of before. Simply put in either the account of GBP that you want to convert, then the system would automatically scan a specific website and tell you how much you get (the price would take account of delivery charges or any transaction charges).

Anyone know of any online or have the skills to develop one for the site. I think that it would be a useful addon for the website and we have plenty of time to create it before the busy holiday season!

I thought of this post when I read this week's newsletter as they have set up this very thing here:

Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

No they don't, read my list. TEG is much better than Marks and Spencer.

TEG and Travelex are fine if you can get to their offices. As an alternative, Marks and Spencer is much more accessible.

Rather than continuing this post further, can we just refer people to http://travelmoney.moneysavingexpert.com/ in future?
    Gone ... or have I?
  • I'm sorry if i'm not meant to post on this thread, but I was reading this forum a couple of months ago when I was trying to find out how legit Crown Currency Exchange were. I found them on comparetravelmoney.co.uk but was scared bacuase they ask you to pay up front for your currency and they post them to you at a later date. A member on here with with a high post count (sorry, can't remember his name) said that they were genuine, so I took a chance. I am so grateful to this forum, I exchanged £1500 and got $3002. I have just ordered more dollars for our upcoming holiday. I was really nervous as there was a 6 week wait between paying and seeing the dollars, but they were sent by Special Delivery.
Anyway, I just wanted to say that if you want the best exchange rate for a future date (they are not always the best for immediate exchanges) then to try them, they are UK based and I would highly recommend them.

Sorry again for posting here, I am new and wasn't sure where to post. Thanks for great advice that has made us a few hundred $$$ extra spends :D

Ummmm - whats inaccessable about getting Travelex to match TEG, and then picking your money up at the airport?

Agreed - their 31 day Interbank rate (even with their small commission) cannot be beaten. Got lovely crisp new colourful dollars, not smelly old ones.

    In general nothing except:

Travelex may not serve your departure point (OK they serve most, but not all - the most blatant omission is Waterloo for Eurostar)

Depending on your bank, the card charges may eat up any saving.
