Hi
I have been looking at the information re means testing for the Studemts Living Fees Grant. It refers to parental income, less pensions. My wife and I are both retired teachers, having retired early due to my wife's health problems, does anyone know if teachers' pensions are excluded from the means testing?
Thanks,
Pat Mahoney

As they are taxable income, they'll be used in the assessment. It's only pension contributions that are deducted from gross income.0

It's deducted from the overall household income and based on that it'll take into account things such as student loan means tested/non-means and maintenance grant.
Please bare in mind that if you're going to study a part-time course then you'll be ineligible for the maintenance grant & student loan and only be entitled to a fixed fee amount of: £265 and some tuition fee paid for you.

I think you'll find that the OP is a parent of a potential student, not intending to become a student themselves. I hope this isn't a reflection on the general standard of comprehension among student finance advisors!0 -

I honestly didn't look or read the OP's question. I just gave general advice in regards to which matter can be taken up on.0 -
And that's why there's so much bad press about SFE advisors. You don't listen to what you're being asked, then give completely incorrect advice.0
