Unauthorised amount taken from my current account Co-op

I have been very VERY stuipid and not checked my Bank Statements properly and regularly. I have just done it, and find to my horror an amount of £1300 taken last May 2011 to Nationwide Credit. I have no idea what this amount is for, and I have no accounts with them, nor does my husband. I am certain I have never paid that to Nationwide, a considerable amount for me.
I've rang Co op, the person tried to help, but I don't think he was very experienced - after some time, said he can't find any information on that transaction. I said it must have gone somewhere, and asked if it could be a mistake. Eventually, I asked him to look into it more and come back to me, and am waiting for call now. Very worried, and wondered if anyone else has had similar experience?
I even rang Nationwide and ased if there was an account in my name - nothing.
Due to time thats elapsed, could they trace whats happened?
Thanks and lesson to anyone else like me, check statements thoroughly every month!!

I think you might find that Nationwide Credit could be a collections company who collect outstanding debts for other companies. Ask your bank to request details of the transaction, although because of the timescales involved they may not be successful with this.
Have you ever fallen behind with any utility bills or credit cards/loans ?0 -
Not fallen behind, had some money sitting there, BUT I have also had an identity theft on same account whihc started 1 June 2011, suspiciously near same date! Someone had set up an account in my husbands name with Pound to Pocet payday loans, and taken money from my account.0

What happened with the identity fraud ? Were the Co-op dealing with this ? Sounds as though it's linked but why haven't you checked your accounts since then ? You need to contact Co-op as soon as possible.0

The previous fraud was only discovered in December, and the Co-op gave me a new card and refunded the amount taken, I've since found, as you said, (thanks) Nationwide Credit are a debt collecting agency based in US, not the UK Building society. The other company Pounds to Pocket are also based in USA - the fraud dept of Co-op are looking into it and will be back to me early next week. I hope I don't lose my money as I've only just noticed that amount. Apparently the amount was taken using my card, tho I know I didn't do it!
I must add that normally I'd definetily have noticed that much loss, but I had some extra money temporarily in the account, otherwsie I'd have gone overdrawn when that happened. I know its my own stuipid fault, feel really sick about it.
I still don't know how it happened, and assume I'll have to check my laptop in some way, in case thats how they got me.0 -
Just an update re fraudulent use of my card - done last June, I only just discovered it. Co-op have just written and confirmed they will be refunding the £1,300 to my account, I am so pleased and relieved, and am lucky they were so good about it. I have been with them for 30+ years and always liked them, so now really recommend them. :j0
