Travel insurance with no cover for missed connections?

We have what I thought was a good annual travel insurance policy. It wasn't the cheapest available by any stretch of the imagination, but the level of cover is sufficient for the USA and I thought I had checked the policy document fairly carefully.
However, it now looks as though we aren't covered for missed connections - which may be out of our control.
I saw this article in the Daily Mail last week:

and thought I'd better check out our policy.

Basically, missed connections are excluded under certain circumstances. Not trusting insurance companies, I'm now looking for a comprehensive insurance travel policy that will cover us for missed connections that are out of our control.
Does anyone know of any?
E.g. Fly drive to America - have to fly out to a gateway city then change planes and take a 2nd flight to where our fly drive starts from. What happens if the 1st flight is delayed/cancelled and we miss our connecting flight? There could alos be a knock on effect as we would be driving on to other places in succesion. We would like a policy that covers us for the case of unavoidable dealys. Somewhat naively, I thought that's what all policies did. It appears not!
