Can cccs take over payment of fines?

Hi there this question is for my son, he has an amount of fines to pay back to the court however he lost his fines payment card and subsequently missed a couple of payments, the courts have now started to take payment directly from his jobseekers allowance at £10 per fortnight. He is also having crisis loan repayments deducted from his jobseekers allowance, leaving him with just £63 per fortnight!! He is due a call from CCCS today to discuss starting a DMP as he has several debts and owes maybe in the region of £1.800 maybe more, and thats without the debts that haven't found him yet for which he has no documentation. Just wondered where he stood really where his fines are concerned, and also wondered whether CCCS could take the crisis loan debt from the dss and also take on the fines debt so that he can pay just CCCS. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Also, if he were to go BR do they wipe his fines and crisis loans etc?

Fines for what exactly?
No, I don't think CCCS can take over the payment of those?Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

AFAIK fines will never be wiped with bankruptcy, but the crisis loan might be? I don't know about those.
I hope he finds work soon, £63 is not a lot

Depends what the so called "fines" are and what court deals with them. Fines through the magistrates court generally cannot, but what are sometimes wrongly called "fines" through the county court etc can be. As these are being deducted from benefit that would imply the first, but need to check.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

If he is planning on going BR then pay the fine off as a first priority. It won't be written off by BR so if it is paid off before BR then more unsecured debt can be written off instead.
I would not recommend going BR on debt of only £1,800. Non payment would be the best solution at the moment and if he gets a job then restoring the payments will have a better appearance on his credit record than a BR.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

I know £63 per month is diabolical but then he did apply for the loans from DWP and he does have to pay them back, I asked him to call them and see if they could drop the repayment amount but they won't! It's ridiculous! How is someone supposed to get by on that?! He's trying so hard to get a job bless him...I feel so bad for him! Wish I could afford to help him!0

Can you let us know what the fines are for Bluebelle? Someone with more knowledge than me will be able to advise

Also he's not going to be able to do a DMP with no earned or disposable income.
Obviously if he gets work then that may change, but at the moment he needs to just send token or no payments to all non-priority debts. Can't get blood out of a stone, so any creditors that don't like it will have to lump it.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Fermi, the only one that's on his back at the moment (there are others that haven't found where he's living yet) is The Money Shop for £150 they told him on the phone that they couldn't accept anything less than £25 and because he's quite naive with things like this he agreed to it! Not sure which court the fines are from, but I think one is driving without insurance, (when he was 17 he sat in his mates driver seat and put his foot on the accelerator without realising it was in gear and rammed it into the side of a house!! He hasn't the first clue on how to drive!
) and not sure what the other one is for but i know it wasn't magistrates.

Has he ever thought about having a word with a wise old relative about things like his right to silence ?He could save a small fortune over the next few years.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Well, hopefully CCCS or you can put him straight on that.Bluebelle72 wrote: »Not sure which court the fines are from, but I think one is driving without insurance, (when he was 17 he sat in his mates driver seat and put his foot on the accelerator without realising it was in gear and rammed it into the side of a house!! The driving without insurance would be magistrates fine and one that cannot be written off in BR.
AS said, for £1800 BR is not really appropriate. However, if much more comes out the the woodwork, he fails to get a job etc then a DRO, BR etc might come into play. Likely a long way to go to that though...Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB
