My Dyson Just Died - Likely Causes?

Options
Not sure if this is correct board (please move if not.) Anyhow had my Dyson was about 6 years and this morning it suddenly died. Plugged in a usual, pushed the button and nothing. Haven't got a spare 13amp fuse so will get one tomorrow to see if that is the problem. Any other likely causes?

Can't you swap the fuse from something else just to prove it? And I have known the lead on a Dyson to fracture just where it enters the appliance due to continual pulling and bending. Might be worth after checking the fuse to switch it on and waggle the lead a little and you may get signs of life. If you do then the lead needs to be cut off and remade in the machine. Failing this, for about £60 odd, Dyson will call on you and they give the machine a good overhaul. Even fit a new motor if neccessary and anything else that show signs of not being 100%.
A "good as new" machine for £60ish can't be bad.

Thanks for the tip - Just looked up on the Dyson site and I reckon thats my next step after checking the fuse (been round my house and would you believe I don't have anything else with a 13 amp fuse:rotfl: )...

Kettle (might do), what about your washing machine or dryer? Try the old dyson fuse in something else and see if that works.

That's what happened to mine and I managed to fix it myself (and I'm a not-very-technically-minded-female ;)).

How did you fix it? Just don't say you taped it or something.

  • Ours of around 6 years also broke this year, we had a 5 year warranty and used it a few times but it gave up in January.

It sort of worked with limited suction but smelled like something was burning everytime we used it.

In the end bought a new one from the Littlewoods catalogue, it was just after Xmas so was in sale and as cheap as I've seen anywhere (£159 for DC08) which I can pay for on 52 weeks interest free and it was buy now pay Sep 07 !!

Plus don't forget sell all the bits from the old one on ebay, you will always get a few quid for tubes, floor tools, nozzels etc
  • Our Dyson suffered from the broken lead problem, this site shows you how to fix it but only if you think you are confident to do so.

I love my spell checker, it stops me making all sorts of stupid smelling mistakes.

teehee, no, from memory I ordered a new lead from a local electrical shop and then just wired it up as the previous one had been. Can't remember too much about it now, but it can't have been that complicated as it's still working a couple of years on.

Ah the kettle, the one thing I didn't check. Fuse out of kettle and into Dyson but still no luck. Definately not the fuse then
