Virgin/MBNA PPI reclaim Question

My 23 year old son has recently paid off his credit card which he took out I believe in 2007/08. I've now found out he has been paying PPI throughout the lifetime of this card. I asked him why he took this out (as it is expensive) and he says he has no idea - he thinks he agreed to it when he called to do a BT when he opened the card. He obviously didn't understand it though as he was unemployed for 9 months and didn't think to claim on it.

My question is - does he have any redress on this. Obviously he seems to have agreed to it but certainly didn't understand what he was being sold. Should he try and reclaim his money?

    Hi sueh6,
Yes he should try, lots of credit card PPI was not sold at the time of applying for the card, it was done when you activated the card some time later. It may not have been explained to him fully and being young and dare I say it naive (we have all been there) :) he might not have fully understood what he was paying for. If he did he would have claimed on it when he was unemployed surely! It's worth a go, nothing to lose ;)
