Constantly losing wi fi connection with Toshiba laptop

I have a Toshiba Satellite C660 laptop which regularly loses the wifi connection. Apparently this is a known problem with this laptop and there are ways in which this problem can be resolved. My problem is that I have been on various discussion forums which explain how to put it right but not being very techie minded I have no idea how to follow the instructions. Can anyone on here give me a dummies guide on how to resolve this problem please?

You don't say how it loses the connection. For example does it just disconnect and then reconnect, or do you lose the wifi icon completely? Give as much info as possible of what happens and what you have to do to reconnect.

    Which operating system?

Provide a link to one of the techie answers and someone may be able to translate it into the language of Technophobia

Do windows update (Through ethernet) or download the network card drivers manually. Tosh are well aware of the fault and in november released a driver update, which was also added to windows update in december or jan (cant remember which).

a Friend of my brother had a similar problem, turned out he had a tv sender unit in his house and everytime it was turned on, he wouldnt get wireless, turned it off and wireless worked.

Question. Do you have a tv sender unit in your house, which maybe interfering with the connection?

    One more question for you.

Are you in a built-up area? Because if there are a lot of wireless networks around you it just might be that too many of the networks may be using the same channel. This can be changed but before we try to tell you how to do this. It may be worth checking what networks are within your reach.

With the Tosh C660 you will be using win 7 right? If you click on the wireless icon on the bottom left of the task bar (like a set of pipes) it will show you what’s close by. If there are a significant number, also with a good signal, then it could be worth changing your channel.

Updating drivers as mentioned above should also be done - I also assume that you will have tried resetting the router (turning off, count to 10, and turn on again)

While it'll be worth doing all of the above, the first thing to do is update the drivers, as it actually is a result of a driver fault with the 660s. Sold hundreds of them at work (literally) and had a huge number sent back with this fault, to the point that Toshiba sent us an email basically saying "our bad."

Thanks all for your replies. Vyle - you seem to know the of the problem but I'm sorry I have no idea what you mean by updating the driver, could you explain it very basically what I need to do? (Imagine I am a small child, then you might understand how un-techie I am)

Because there are 3 network cards and three drivers you should let us know what operating system (Win XP, Vista or Windows 7). Also if you can go to the Device Manager to see if there is a network card with a yellow character next to it. Because of the way Toshiba lays out it's website it may be overbearing for a novice, but you should go to their European website, input the details of your computer, if you have the service tag (on a label glued to perhaps the underside, then it will search for the drivers. To be honest, I'd nip into your local computer shop (Not PC World) and see if they'll do it for you. You know very little and muck about with drivers can cause problems. If you really want to know what's inside your computer, you could download Everest Home Edition or SiSoft Sandra
This helps you to find out what WLan card you have.
The link below will take you to a discussion about your problem.

Edited to add Toshiba Driver Download area. Input as much information as you can into the form and click on 'Search' and see what drivers come up.
