Had a bumped, will it increase my insurance?

to cut a long story short...
I was exiting from a retail park when i rear ended the car in front of me at a very low speed. We both stopped and inspected if there was damage. The other driver inspected her and told me that I was lucky that there was no damage at all (I was so apologetic at that time). We didnt exchanged details as she said there was no need. My insurer (insurethebox) rang me and asked if I was ok. They also asked me more information about the accident etc. of which i provided them.
This accident happened 3 moths ago and I am now due for renewal next month. I am 28 years old, its my 1st year of driving as well., I paid 2k for my insurance, driving a 1.4 ford focus 2002. Now my question is, will it increase my insurance massively although no one made a claim or anything like that? Do I have to declare this on my renawal?

Yes you have to declare the "accident" and yes your premiums will probably go up regardless of fault, but then premiums tend to go up anyway.

Yes, you will have to declare it.
Not sure what as though, as technically it was a fault accident, even though there was no claim, and your ncd should be intact.
Ask insurethebox if they have recorded it, and what as, and take your lead from them.
You should also have informed your insurer of the accident, before the box did.

edit - "accident - you were to blame" seems to be the option that fits from my current insurer
  • thank you so much for your reply. I hope it will not increase that much. They actually ring me barely 5mins after the accident as it happened close to my flat. The box they fitted will automatically buzz them if you were involved in an accident as they say. Anyway, im going to speak to them tomorrow about this.
    Thank you.

That's fair enough then, you couldn't be expected to tell them in that sort of time, so no problem there.

That's scary stuff! I know that my son and daughter can track my whereabouts by mobile phone and I'm quite clued up tech-wise (for my age) but you now have a device fitted that detects location and an actual bump? I've heard of tthis technology and realise how easy it would be to implement but didn't realise that it was actually happening. Not good at all. :(

Whats not good about it? if you have an accident in your car regardless of fault you are obliged to inform your insurance company anyway.

That's the whole point of the box.
It records your driving style, and if you're a steady driver, you get a better deal.

If it automatically records "all bumps" does that mean the end of back seat action with the girlfriend??;);)
