The legislation may be changing at some point this year and the backless booster seats MAY be outlawed. So in preparation i'm considering buying an extra two, so we have seats for both cars. At the moment a lot of them seem to be on offer or half price, but i'm toying with the idea that if i leave it and the law comes in, the offers will end as everyone will need to buy additional seats, pushing prices up.
I've been looking at well known brands Britax or Graco. A friend of mine has mentioned the 5 point safety feature is better than the 3 point, but i'm finding it hard to compare. I think she is referring to the side impact protection.
Can anyone who has one give me their opinions on the model they have and why they bought it?
Thanks

Well, DD had a plain booster seat, then my parents saw a documentary about how little protection they gave, freaked out, and bought me/her one.
DD has been teased MERCILESSLY about it. Why hers (at age 8) is designed to look the same as her brothers (15 months) I will never know.
The tears got to me, and last week, after a year, I went back to Halfords and got the back and side taken off.
(I should possibly mention that she does not leagally need any sort of seat as she is 146cm)
So after my waffly post, I can't remember my point sorry :rotfl:0 -
My understanding is that this will apply to new seats only. Therefore people won't be replacing the seats they already have so there shouldn't be a mad rush. Unless you have a link that states my belief is not correct?0

In order to get a 5 point harnessed booster seat for a 4+ year old you need to look in the special needs section of seating, dont be put off by it, some look like proper racing car seats and pretty appealing to kids.
As far as child car safety goes the UK actually lags behind and im glad they are thinking about outlawing the basic booster seat, it offers sod all side impact protection and the amount of very small children I have seen sat in them that are well below the weight range is shocking. I honestly dont think half the parents know what their kid weigh's in Kg's and just go by their own guesses.
You can also import from Sweden or America.Little Person Number 4 Due March 2012

I have two Britax Evolva 2-3 seats in my car. I bought them simply because they were the safest seats in their group on the market at the time (according to Which? guide).
My eight year old girl hates hers because of the back and sides and complains that her friends are allowed just booster cushions. I've told her it's tough! They are far safer than a simple booster and that's what counts.0 -

Is it just that she notices or have her friends noticed too?
Is she tall?0 -

I suspect it's friends' comments. She's average height so well below the minimum height requirement.0 -
what is the minimum height out of interest? i'm only asking out of curiosity as my two are well below any height guidelines.0

135cm...........or 12 years

Q: My child is under 12 but over 135cm in height, do I legally have to use a child seat?
A: Legally a child can be restrained with just an adult seat belt once they have reached EITHER 135cm in height OR their 12th birthday, which ever one of the two comes first.0 -
Yes I know that one of the most essential things parents needs to think about buying is really a car seat.0

We've got a Graco, had it for a few years now.
Basically the same as this:-

The harness is only rated to 18KG and then has to be removed, as did most of the ones i looked at a couple of years ago.0
