    any help ladies and gents
  • OK here goes.
From Travelodge (Blackfriars Street yes?) walk back uphill towards the shops until you get to the Tram stop outside Debenhams in Market Street.
Here catch a tram marked Altrincham which will take you to Old Trafford tram station about 15 minutes away. It stops outside the cricket ground but you can't go wrong from there - just follow the crowds.
Don't know what time you arrive in Manchester but there is a foodcourt in the Arndale shopping centre if you want fast food type and a Burgerking in Piccadilly Gardens next to Primark.
If you want burger and chips then are plenty of stalls between the tram station and the ground.
Have a good time - let me know if there is anything else you want to know.

Sorry I forgot about getting from Oxford Road to Travellodge - I always get trains that end up in Piccadilly station so from there I walk down to Piccadilly Gardens walk down past the Arndale (the food court is up the moving staircase) keep on walking down past Marks on your right until you come to a bridge the Travellodge is then on your right hand side as soon as you have crossed the bridge.(About 10 minutes from Piccadilly station)

    Yes!!!!!!!!!!!
  • To get back to town after the game you can do one of two things.Go back to Old Trafford tram station (reversing the way you came) and get a tram back to town BUT after a match you will probably find a lot ot trams packed full and you might have a long wait to get on one or do as I do and walk to Exchange Quay station and get one from there.
From outside Old Trafford go past the Golden Tulip hotel and walk down to main road and turn right - then carry on going until you get to the Trafford Road bridge (which is on your left) when you are over the bridge you have to be careful as you need to walk across a dual carrigway (both sides!) on to a grass verge opposite a big blue glass building. From there you should be able to see Exchange Quay station. Again you need to be on the Altrincham side (not Bury) and take it back to Piccadilly Gardens which is close to Debenhams and walk back to your hotel.
  • You can find the city centre Metrolink map here:

    http://www.metrolink.co.uk/pdf/City_Centre_Map.pdf

Note that after 6:30pm all trams go via Piccadilly. Unless you're getting the tram a long time before kick off, on match days by the time they get to stops 5, 6 and 7 they can be very full so it's best getting on earlier even though those stops might look closer to Oxford Road.

As far as eating goes there is something for pretty much any budget and taste, so depends on what you like, what your budget is, and how much time you have.

Assuming you are arriving from the west, does your train not carry on to Piccadilly after Oxford Road? (or coming from the east, chances are it will stop at Piccadilly first). If yuo do after to travel from Oxford Road, then I'd just walk, its not that far. After leaving the station I'd bear left and turn left up Oxford street. At St peters Square (the next major insection), turn right and keep on straight until you reach the north end of Piccadilly gardens. At end of the road turn left and walk past Arndale centre and follow the above directions.
  • Yes you are right but depending on kick off times and how long I've got to get to the ground, I have found it easier to get the metro straight from Piccadilly station - sometimes to Old Trafford sometimes to Exchange Quay.
