However, the other symptoms I have are:

Short term memory loss / poor concentration
balance problem (I bump into things, and sometimes lose my balance)
Feeling cold 'from the inside out' even when the room is warm
    muscle tenderness (probably the fybromialgia)
severe facial sweating when I eat starchy carbohydrates (may be connected to the diabetes, but I avoid starchy carbs, so it isn't a great problem)
Also, recently I have been getting really bad headaches, which is also a new development

LazyDaisy, the poor memory & poor concentration are symptoms of an under active thyroid as is aching muscles. Also balance problems can occur when the condition is left undetected for some time. I was constantly falling over for no particular reason before I was diagnosed.

You definitely need to get your doc to refer you an endocrinologist to try to get an answer to what is causing your symptoms. Be a good girl & do it asap, ok.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

  • Have you had your prolactin levels checked? I had some blood tests for odd symptoms and the prolactin level was high- the consultant specifically asked if I had problems with my vision or with head-aches.
  • just thought i should point out, your temperature is most likely to be normal. temperatures above 37 (well 37.5) are considered abnormal. Hypothermia is defined as core (rectal) temperature below 35 degrees celsius
Many of the things mentioned above can cause this - certain medications, alcohol, low thyroid, but your temperature is not below the normal range.

I agree, and said the same thing in an earlier post

You should definitely get a new thyroid blood test done.

I'm medically induced hyperthyroid, but have hypo symptoms - my body temperature is low, I feel cold most of the time (I can be wearing 5 layers of clothes and still be cold at work while other people are in short sleeved shirts quite happily), I'm generally more tired than I should be and my concentration and memory are poor, I also get muscle aches - if I exercise I can be up half the night due to the aching. Unfortunately I'm already less hyper than my consultant wants me to be, so I'm pretty much stuck with it.

So do as others have said and definitely get a TFT (thyroid function test) blood test done as if you are suffering from hypothyroidism it should be easy to treat with the right medication.

Am new to site but have got fibromyalgia and have problems with my thermostat as well.!can go from boiling inside but goose bumps outside to sweat pouring off me.Also have oral temp that runs low 35,s.Suffer extreme tiredness ,headaches.Fibromyalgia is thought to be an immune system disease-as you already have diabetes you couls have this or thyroid problems. Also poorly controlled blood sugar can cause fatigue. Was tested for Lupus-another immune system disease that has similar symptoms.
    Hope this is useful!
:j this money saving is such fun:T
  • My understanding is that the test for thyroid levels is not very sensitive or accurate, so people are quite often misdiagnosed. If so, it could be that you do have a low thyroid level and it has been missed. Anyone else have an opinion on that?

Yes nightsong, you are right the test isn't very sensitive and only usually picks up when the problem is quite severe.
