  • It's only just 4 years old (got it 1 year old). I have never driven recklessly, its been looked after ( I am a health professional not a boy racer), never had a single problem with it.
I have been driving for 10 years, never had any car troubles before. Had another citroen before for 7 years and had no problems!
I wasnt trying to put the blame anywhere, i was just seeing if anyone has had a similar experience.
I was advised by my insurance to get the work done (@ £500) so they could write it off, but now they have changed their tune.

Your car breaking down isn't something that's covered by insurance. Your situation is no different to having a 15 year old car that suffers engine failure, from an insurance point of view. You wouldn't expect insurance to pay out in that case, would you? I know it's frustrating - if you'd crashed it then they would pay out.

I would be extremely annoyed if my car had a catastrophic failure at such a young age. If the manufacturer's recommended service schedule has been followed and this happened without warning, you could try pursuing it with Citroen. That would be your only recourse but if it's no longer under any warranty then unfortunately you don't really have a leg to stand on. :( You said it's 4 years old - what warranty were Citroen supplying with cars when it was made?
