Unrecognised transaction

in Credit cards
Hi, Wonder if someone might be able to give me some advice? I recently had my credit card bill and saw 2 transactions that I do not recognise. They were both from a local store which I recently visited. My only recognition was that I recently went into the store to buy some soup. I did not to my knowledge buy anything else. 3 transactions on my statement are from the same store(on the same day). I cannot say for sure whether the first transaction is legit. It's only that I recognise the amount tallying up with the deal on soup. The second transaction I do not recognise, and unless I came out unknowingly carrying 50 shopping bags, the third transactions are for sure fraudulent / or an error. Have contacted my credit card provider who says they will look into it and will get back to me if they need to investigate further. My concern is that the transaction is from a local store that I've visited recently. I can't say for sure that I visited the store on the day in question or paid using my credit card? And if I did, how is it that I have been charged 3 separate transactions (2 at least being in error)?
After receiving my statement I went back into the store to make sure that the soup tallied up with the amount on the statement. I also bought something else but this time with CASH.While I was in the checkout, the cashier said to the woman in front that they are always having trouble with the card terminals. Could they possibly have charged me for someone else's shopping? How is it that all the erroneous transactions occurred on the same day (none since) in the same store? Any informed advice about what happens next and whether its liable that I will have to pay would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You dispute the transactions (which you've done) and let the card company sort it out. You won't be liable if you didn't make the transactions.
In the meantime, enjoy your soup.0 -
The transactions might have all debited on the same day but they could have been made on different days. Do you use the shop regularly ? Does your statement show the transaction dates as well as the debit dates ?0

On my statement it says that the 3 separate transactions were carried out on the same day although they came through on different days. I v rarely if ever go into that store and the only thing i bought was the soup.0

Is the store chip and pin? all still signature based?
Its possibly an error (although that seems unlikely), it could be staff fraud.
Have you got your copy of your credit card receipt from the first/soup transaction to confirm the date you made the purchase?
The card company should easily be able to determine if these are fraudulent. Wait to see what they say.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately I don't have the receipt for the soup. I can't say for sure that I even used my cc to pay for it. It's just that the amount on the statement tallies up with why I went into the store to buy the soup. As for the other 2 transactions as I didn't authorise them how can I have had a receipt. It just taught me a vital lesson about paying with cash rather than with a cc. As @rip Off Britain' showed last night these things can go wrong.0

I did notice though that the 2 transactions that I queried both have an A beside the card, whereas the transactions that I can verify have an m. I don't know if that is significant??0

Could they be late transactions that haven't debited your account previously ? Your card issuer should be able to confirm this for you.0 -
another lesson - keep all card receipts at least until checked off on your credit card statement/ bank statement.
If you'd had the first receipt then at least you could say to the bank you definitely made the first transaction but the other 2 must be errors or fraudulent.
It probably just doesn't come across as well to the bank to say the first transaction might be mine, but the latter 2 are not, iykwim.
And if you'd kept the receipt it might have been easier for the local store to trace back exactly when you made your purchse and which member of staff was operating the till that day. (It sounds very similar to a staff fraud case I was involved in investigating once).A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
I think this is a case of wait and see what happens when the card issuer returns....0
