PPI text message received

Hi
Have looked for info regarding my situaion but could not find any so aplogies if this has already been discussed.

I have recently received a text message - unknown sender:

Quote" We have been trying to contact you reagarding your PPI Claim, we now have details of how much you are owed, just reply CONFIRM and we will arrange a time to discuss this."

Is this spam?
How would they know I am owed PPI?
I have never knowingly paid PPI but having read on here it could have been missed in the small print?

Could anyone adivise please?

Many thanks

Fairly frequently but dont worry - there is so much volume in posting that its hard to find things sometimes.

    It is spam.
They dont know you are owed PPI as no-one owed a refund. That isnt how it works. Also, they dont even know you have or have not got PPI.
PPI cannot be hidden. The only way you wouldnt know is if you didnt read your documentation or look at your statements.

The text is similar to the one you get where a claims company tell you that you can claim for the accident you had last year. Its a random mass text and they hope some will phone them and they may get lucky on x% of those calls which then generate them money.

    LOL.

I also received a text message yesterday along the lines of 'according to data passed on to us, you are owed £2560 with regard to mis-sold PPI on your loan or credit card'.

What a load of rubbish! Immediately deleted.... :rotfl:

The important thing is not to reply in any way, shape or form to the text message.

The message is sent automatically to numbers that are computer generated and the sender has no knowledge as to whether the number exists or not.

As soon as you reply, the sender knows that your number is "live" and it will get passed around amongst spammers and you will receive loads of unwanted texts from all sorts of organisations.
