why doesnt my burglar alarm sound when i remove the cover?

Hi guys n gals pretty much as it says really. I had to turn the mains power off yesterday and when i turned the power back on i was unable to set the burglar alarm. After doing some research it seems that the battery inside of the control panel is goosed (it has been in 12 years). However when i opened the control panel i believe that the alarm should have sounded, it did not.

Does anybody know why this is ? and do you guys think that i may need a new battery or is the alarm kna@@ered.

Thanks in advance

    a) is it supposed to sound if the case is removed?
    b) could it be the battery which does the sounding?

If you have no power to the alarm and a dead battery, the alarm won't sound.

If you enter a master (engineers) access code before removing the cover, it will disable it.

your alarm may not have this feature. Look for a switch of some kind that triggers the alarm when cover is removed (Commonly on the PCB, and held in the 'off' position by a spring between PCB and cover)

If all else fails RTFM :rotfl:

There is normally an anti tamper switch inside the control box that is activated by removing the cover. Check if you can see one and if it operates.

After 12 years the battery probably needs replacing, although you should still be able to operate the alarm when mains power is applied.
  • My burglar alarm control box has a small spring inside which operates the anti tamper switch, on mine the spring can be pushed under the PCB so that the alarm can be worked on while the cover is off. Maybe yours has been worked on in the past without the spring being released.

If you haven't changed the battery in 12 years the charging circuit may be burnt out. Which can cause all sorts of problems, especially on ADE panels.

Speaker fuse blown, speaker faulty, connections faulty.
Main PCB faulty - see first comment.
